In the Baytown-Chambers County region, education means more than enlightenment; education means empowering futures through a world-class workforce and residents ready to succeed in all areas of life.
The foundation is laid early with the choice of high-quality private schools and four high-achieving public school districts that graduate approximately 2,000 students annually. Graduation rates, ACT and SAT scores all higher than the state average testify to the quality of the region’s public school systems.
Courses in all 14 career clusters designated by the Texas Education Agency, and a close collaborative partnership with Lee College allow students to jumpstart their careers through options including:
Dual credit allows students to earn up to 42 semester credit hours towards core curriculum completion, or career/technical certificates.
This option allows students to earn up to 60 semester credit hours toward a baccalaureate or associate degree.
These pathways allow students to earn industry-based certification with Level 1 or Level 2 certificates, or up to 60 semester credit hours toward an associate of applied science degree. In addition to 10 career academies, Goose Creek CISD offers three P-Tech programs.
Lee College
Supporting the area's economic growth are the expanding opportunities at Lee College, where the number of degrees and certifications has doubled since 2014 with more than 3,000 degrees conferred annually since 2018.
The College's six career pathways -- which include STEM, Manufacturing and Industrial, Applied Business, Health Services, Liberal and Fine Arts and Public Service -- allow students to pursue more than 100 associate degree and certification programs which are key to answering local employment needs. In fact, much of the College's growth has been in programming that can be completed in a year or less. These pathways bring potential employees into the workplace more rapidly and with relevant knowledge and abilities, thanks to state-of-the-art facilities that include the McNair Center, where students acquire high-value skills through hands-on technical training.
And while some students transition in to the workforce more quickly through certifications and shorter degree options, others may choose a two-year degree transitioning to a four-year degree program.
Four-year Education/Research
Four-year and post-graduate career options include University of Houston and Rice University. These doctoral colleges are Carnegie Classified R1 for very high research activity, providing not only transformative career paths, but also research that drives industry innovation: University of Houston’s Division of Energy and Innovation is leading the way to a more sustainable future through seven energy centers and institutes, including the Energy Transition Institute.
Custom training
As the hub of a comprehensive training ecosystem, Workforce Solutions-Baytown works to assure industry needs are met, connecting employers with workforce, workforce with appropriate training, and coordinating custom training through Lee College’s Center for Workforce and Community Development, with costs defrayed by the Texas Skills Development Fund for qualified projects.
